How to travel to Guadeloupe, Caribbean

For boat lovers, there are many companies who offer boat rentals with or without a skipper. Guadeloupe has a well developed infrastructure for boating. There are three marinas located in Gourbeyre, Saint-François and Pointe a Pitre.

Customs:

French citizens need an identification papers or a passport.
For other C.C.E citizens an identification papers, a passport or a French visa will suffice.
For other foreigners, a valid passport is required. No vaccinations are required.
You can bring in free tax, articles totalling 880 euros from E.E.C countries (95 € for persons under 15)
For other countries, articles totalling 175 euros (90€ for persons under 15)

Animals :

Animals will need updated health certificates. Do check the policies at your home before arriving with your pet.

What to bring :

Light, relaxed summer clothing is certainly a must with a few dressy outfits for the evenings.
A good pair of walking shoes or sneakers are necessary. Do bring along a sweater and something in case of rain.
Bathing suits and sunglasses should also be part of one's packing list, and don't forget, you can always purchase a pretty straw hat eo anything else you might need in one of the many lovely boutiques.
Local drugstores offer an array of mosquito repellent and sun protection lotions..

They are open from 8 am, to 12 pm, and 2pm to 4 pm.

The national currency is the EURO
Most credit cards are widely accepted. There are a number of cash machines. All banks will accept and change travelers checks.

Language :

French is the official language, but Guadeloupeans often speak in Creole.

Getting around the island :

Cars rental agencies are found at the airport as well as motorcycle and scooter rentals. Taxis and buses are another common means of transportation

On the road :

Driving is on the right hand side. The 133 miles of roads are well tended, and you can easily find road maps at cart rental agencies and at the tourist Office.
